Angel Elite Track
& Field 13u AAU State Titles
The
History:
Since
2003, the track program has produced
2 individual USA Track and Field
(USATF) state championships,
30 AAU individual state titles,
along with 8 silver medals and
12 bronze medals. The club has
also produced 17 Region 3-A individual
championships (Region 3-A includes
Tennessee
,
Alabama
and
North Carolina
) as well as 7 silver and 8 bronze
regional medals. Angel Elite has
produced 3 national champions who
have combined for a total of 8
championships (2 indoor titles
and 6 outdoor titles) including
one AAU Jr. Olympic Championship.
Club athletes have also set 4 national
records. Angel Elite competitors
have achieved “All-America"
status 28 times (top 8 at the Junior
Olympic games, Club National Championships
and AAU National Indoor championships)
collecting 30 national championship
medals including 11 AAU Junior
Olympic Medals. At the Club National
championship meet in Orlando in
2007, Angel Elite finished 8th
of 35 teams in the female 12U age
division and 14th of 58 teams in
the overall 12U division (male
and female combined). In 2008 AE
finished 6th of 36 in the sub-youth
age division at club nationals
and 68th of 136 with just two athletes.In
2009 Angel Elite recorded its highest
finish ever with a 5th place
performance (of 48) in the Youth
age group. Aminah scored 33 pts
and was just 3 points away from
a 3rd place team finish
by herself. The team finished 72nd of
170 with just two athletes. Currently,
the track program features a coaching
staff that is USATF Level I certified
and boasts a total of 12 years
collegiate track experience.
2009
Highlights:

The Club
captured a team record
13 state
titles at the N.C. AAU
State Championship meet-GOLDEN
GIRLS: Aminah Ghaffar, Jaynell
Brown, Jamicia Jones , Olivia
Mack and Moriah Morten combined
for 12 gold medals at the meet.
Ghaffar led Angel Elite collecting
4 state titles. Ghaffar has
won 11 AAU state titles including
4 straight in both the long
jump and high jump. Jaynell
Brown has quite a run going
as well as she won her 5th
consecutive shot put title
and 4th straight discus state
title. Jamicia Jones won the
16U 400m dash, 800m run, and
1500m run. Olivia Mack had
a great meet, picking up two
gold medals winning the 100m
dash and the 400m. She also
picked up silvers in the both
the 200m and 800m. Moriah Morten
won the 3000m run and finished
3rd in the 1500m run. Justin
Jacobs won the discus representing
the Angel Elite men.

Aminah
won her 6th national track
title at the Club National
Championships in Orlando, FL
repeating as the AAU
Club National champ in the pentathlon.
She also added four more medals
during the week finishing 2nd
in the high jump, 4th in the
100m hurdles, 5th in the 200m
hurdles and 6th in the long
jump.

Youth Ranking System All-American honors
in the pentathlon (#18).

Jaynell
Brown finished 9th in the shot
at the USATF Jr. Olympic Games
while Aminah finished 11th
in the 200m hurdles. Aminah
and Jaynell chose not to compete
in the AAU Junior Olympics.
Both would have likely scored
medals had they attended (Aminah
in the pentathlon and Jaynell
in the shotput).

- Jr. Olympics: Jaynell Brown
became just the second club member
to win an AAU Junior Olympic
medal when she won two medals
at the Junior Olympic Games in
Detroit, MI. (shot put and discus).
Aminah won her 9th Junior Olympic
medal recording an 8th place
finish in the pentathlon.
- Aminah and Jamicia were strong
at the Club National Championships
in Orlando. Aminah won the gold
(her 5th national title) in the
pentathlon and also grabbed silver
in the HJ and bronze in both
hurdle races (100 and 200). Jamicia
finished an impressive 5th in
the 800m. Aminah led the team
to a 6th place finish (of 38
teams) in the sub-youth-13U age
group.
- Elite Youth Ranking System
top 100 performances: The team
set a record for national rankings
as there were four AE athletes
represented in the final rankings
led by Jaynell (14U) who became
the second AE athlete to make
All-American by ranking 11th
in the shot. She also made the
Honor Roll coming in at 27th
in the discus. Other ranked athletes
were Shaquiela Robinson (17U)-
#38 High Jump, Aminah (14U) #42
pentathlon, #60 long jump and
#79 high jump; Jamicia Jones
(15U) #89 800m.
- Angel Elite was a hit at the
N.C. State AAU meet grabbing
7 gold medals (Jamicia-800m;
Aminah-LJ, HJ; Jaynell-shot,
discus; Shaquila-HJ; Justin Jacobs-discus)
- AE followed the State performance
with a strong regional performance
producing 3 more gold medals
and several silvers and bronzes.
2007 Highlights:
- Aminah
Ghaffar captured Angel Elite’s
first AAU Junior Olympic Gold Medal
winning the Midget (12U) high jump.
She also grabbed a second medal
finishing 6th in the pentathlon
- AE sent 5
athletes to the Junior Olympic
Games held in Knoxville, TN in
a total of 11 events (club record)
- 2007 AAU Club
National Championship Meet in
Orlando: Aminah Ghaffar grabbed
silver in the high jump and pentathlon
and 4th in the high jump and
80 meter hurdles.

Candace
Foster
: Native of
Knoxville
, TN. Ran track for over 15 years (started
in the 3rd grade). Won East Tennessee
HS Regional title as a senior in
the Long Jump. Placed 7th at the
Tennessee HS State championships.
Ran at the
University
of
Tennessee
at
Chattanooga
where she was a 5 time All-Conference
performer in the 4x100, 4x400 and
Sprint Medley Relay. Graduated
with honors (3.8 GPA) with a Degree in
Sports Administration and minor
in Business Administration. Ran
with
Knoxville
Track Club. Qualified for Junior
Olympic Games five times. Began
coaching in 2001 with Knoxville
Track Club. Has coached with the
Angel Elite Track Club since 2002.
Became a Level I Certified Coach
in January of 2006.
Rasheeda
Ghaffar: Born in
Chapel Hill
,
NC
. Rasheeda attended high school in
Knoxville
,
TN
where she began running. While at South Doyle High she broke 2 school records
in the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles. She was All-KIL(all city) in both hurdles
as well as all-region and all-state. She qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic
Games in 1998 and 1999 in the 400m hurdles and the 4x100m relay. Rasheeda
graduated high school with a 3.5 GPA. She attended The University of Tennessee
at
Chattanooga
on an academic and athletic scholarship. Rasheeda finished 5th (all-conference)
in the heptathlon as a freshman. She made all-conference in the indoor 55m
hurdles her junior year and all-conference outdoor in the 100m hurdles, 400m
hurdles and heptathlon as a senior. She was all-conference every year of
her college career. Rasheeda graduated with a B.A. in Communications and
minored in athletic coaching. She has coached for 6 years and is a level
one certified USATF coach. |
